Handstand and Yoga coaching for everyone

feel like the world is upside-down?
Try a handstand!

Hi. I’m Susan. Mom of 3 young adults and 2 pups. Yoga Teacher. Handstand Coach. Multi-sport Athlete. Book Worm.

I started practicing yoga before it was cool, but still consider myself somewhat of a late-blooming yogi. I didn’t like it at first – at all. It was too slow, too specific and too hard. Especially savasana. But, being stubborn and knowing how much others loved yoga, I kept going back for more, and slowly yoga changed me. It took time and patience, but eventually I could settle in to the rhythm of the movement and savasana. I could breathe more easily. And I could finally feel that lovely buzz after a good class.

After sampling every type of yoga including Yin, Ashtanga, Power Vinyasa (RYT), and even Aerial Yoga (certified AIR Yogalates) over the years, I eventually settled into a deep love of Vinyasa, with a specific love of the art of inversions and handstands. Now as a teacher, I see the perception of students being up-side down is that it is best left to the extreme athlete or advanced practitioner to achieve. Not true! Yes, handstands and inversions are physically challenging poses, but they are just as much of a mental challenge. I learned to handstand at 50 years old - and you can learn too!

Why Handstand?

Aside from overcoming your fear, bringing out your inner child and just being plain fun, handstands are good for you!

  1. Handstands increase upper body strength

  2. Handstands improve your balance

  3. Handstands boost your mood - since the blood flow to your brain has an energizing and calming effect

  4. Handstands build core strength because you need your core for stability

  5. Handstands improve bone density (because you are weight bearing), circulation, and breathing!

So, whether you are new to yoga or a longtime practitioner, I can design a custom program for you to kick-start or advance your inversion practice through a series of individualized strength and mobility drills. More about me >
